Watching the 2008 democratic convention in Denver, right before Hillary Clinton’s speech, I was amused to find CNN showing an earlier clip of a wardrobe lighting check with a robust man holding up four of the exact same boxy pleated pants suits in yellow, orange, red and blue. She chose orange. It seemed to contrast nicely against the bold blue backdrop. When I try and relate pants suits to appealing fashion I think Chanel, Katherine Hepburn, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney and in 1995, Tom Ford's collection for Gucci, the famous hip-hugger suit, worn by Madonna.

“The Proclamation of Truth is Fearless: A Conversation with Anne Waldman” from the Spring 2006 issue.
Anne Waldman is a giant among men. The youngest Beat poet, she grew up on MacDougal Street, attended Bennington, and became one of the heavy hitters in the East Coast poetry scene. Running St. Mark’s Church Poetry Project from 1966-1978, she offered up high-energy, over-the-top physical readings, hob-knobbed with Patti Smith, Philip Glass, Joan Baez and was featured along with Allen Ginsberg in Bob Dylan’s “Renaldo & Clara.”
Lured to snowy, arid Colorado by Ginsberg and their Buddhist teacher, Chögyam Trungpa, she and Allen co-founded the Jack Kerouac School for Disembodied Poetics Read the rest »

Ecofashion & Gardening: “You look like what you eat”
By anna on Aug 26, 2008 in blog, conscious consumerism, ecofashion, organics, sustainability, wellness | 0 Comments

For the first time in years, this summer, I have been all about our garden but for the last decade, being a fashion/city girl, I never took much interest in gardening. I remember back to my childhood, rolling around in mulch, picking rhubarb and eating carrots straight out of the dirt. Now, having moved back to the “old” country and converted myself as nature girl re-visited, we have been eating like kings. There is nothing better than fresh produce picked 5 minutes before you cook it or eat it raw. The amount of nutrients you lose by waiting days for that stuff to arrive off the plane from California or even Ontario just doesn’t cut it anymore, not to mention the fuel just getting it here.
I thought I would write my first eco-fashion blog on something a little more personal and close to my heart than any actual product you can buy in a store or online. Read the rest »
